Blue Bloods star Vanessa Ray, who plays Officer Eddie Janko, and real-life husband Landon Beard have adopted a baby boy—and it was working on the police drama that influenced her decision to start a family by adding sonIsaac Ray Beard, who was born on Nov. 7.
"My husband and I weren't totally sure if we were going to have kids, at what point in our life that made sense and all those things," Ray told People, who says she was moved while filming. "I was at work one day, honestly I was about to do a family dinner and I just had this overwhelming sensation of family and what I love about our life and all of these things."
The magazine goes on to say that one of the first people Ray told about the choice was her Blue Bloods co-star Bridget Moynahan, who suggested that Ray talk to Peter Hermann, who plays Moynahan’s ex Jack Boyle, because Hermann, along with wife Mariska Hargitay, had gone through the adoption procedure not once, but twice.
"Graciously, he really held our hand and walked us through everything that we would need to know about adoption," Ray said. "It's a lot of first dates almost. It almost feels like there's a ton of heartbreak that comes along with it."
The adoption process isn’t easy and Ray and Beard began the process of hiring an adoption attorney and filling out the reams of necessary paperwork. And unlike a lot of adoptions that can take years for the adoptive parents to be selected, Ray and her husband posted their request on an adoption website and in less than a week were matched with a potential birth mother, who gave birth three weeks later.
Because it happened so quickly, Ray didn’t have the nursery ready, but she credits her friends with helping her pull together the necessities like a crib, bottles, a sterilizer and diapers.
"We had everything that we needed from our friends,” Ray told People. “We didn't have to buy anything. We really didn't right away, at least for the first three months."
Since Issac was born just before the strike ended, his mom has since taken him to the set.
"He's met Will [Estes] and Bridget and Donnie [Wahlberg] and Marisa [Ramirez] and Tom [Selleck], and yeah, he's met everybody," Ray says "He's already a real part of the family."

After 14 season of starring on Blue Bloods, Tom Selleck doesn't agree with CBS' decision to cancel the beloved police procedural. The network confirmed in November 2023 that the long-running police procedural will conclude with its 14th and final season, which will be split into two parts.
Tony and Andrew Terraciano are real brothers who live in the small historical town of Pelham in Westchester County. As CBS2's Jill Nicolini reported, they also act as brothers on the CBS drama Blue Bloods. The family swears the brothers are just two normal teenagers.
In 2022, Baez adopted a newborn baby girl, Elena Baez, whose biological mother Elena Marquez was murdered by a bomb planted on the orders of Arturo Muñoz. At the time of her murder, Marquez was supposed to be in witness protection while preparing to testify against Muñoz, but had left to check on her mother.
Summary. Tony Terraciano's role as Jack Reagan on Blue Bloods decreased from season 10 onward, aligning with his character going off to college. Terraciano studied neuroscience and is in medical school now, similar to Jack's interest in becoming a doctor on the show.
Jennifer Esposito left Blue Bloods in 2012 after playing the dynamic Jackie Curatola for three seasons. Her departure from the CBS police procedural was something of a dramatic affair as Esposito had been unceremoniously fired.
It's one of the top-rated shows on CBS and all of television. And the key to its success is Wade, a baptized, practicing Catholic, born in Chappaqua, N.Y., who joined the show mid-way into its first season.
While Jackie departed Blue Bloods due to stress, Jennifer Esposito left the show for medical reasons as well. Esposito was diagnosed with Celiac disease, an immune disorder that causes those with the illness to become very sick if they eat gluten.
Amy Carlson Departed the Series After Her Contract Expired
Sometimes, it has to do with behind-the-scenes factors. In the case of Amy Carlson, her Blue Bloods contract expired after Season 7, and she chose not to renew it (though she did not give a specific reason why).
BLUE BLOODS producer Kevin Wade is clearing up some rumors about a possible romance between Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) in the show's last season. In an interview with TV Insider, Wade explained that it's unlikely to happen because it's the final season.
Eddie Janko-Reagan, played by Vanessa Ray, becomes a key member of the Reagan family through her romance with Jamie. Vanessa Ray's portrayal of Eddie in Blue Bloods is praised for bringing depth and connection to the character.
Episode 20 was Baez's baby's first appearance after a long hiatus, during which many of us forgot that Baez's baby even existed! Baez first joined Blue Bloods in Season 3. And since then, she's been generally career-focused. But in the Season 12 finale, “Silver Linings,” Baez decides to adopt a newborn baby girl.
