What is the forbidden time for prayer? ›

Allah's Apostle said, "None of you should try to pray at sunrise or sunset." Volume 1, Book 10, Number 560: Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "There is no prayer after the morning prayer till the sun rises, and there is no prayer after the Asr prayer till the sun sets."

Most Muslims pray five times a day, with their prayers being known as Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (afternoon), Asr (late afternoon), Maghrib (after sunset), and Isha (nighttime), always facing towards the Kaaba.

A Rak'a (Arabic: ركعة rakʿah, pronounced [ˈrakʕah] lit. The time at which the Fajr prayer must be offered is from the beginning of dawn to sunrise.

The reason for that is that the time for Dhuhr prayer lasts from when the sun passes the meridian until the time for `Asr begins, so all of this time is the time for Dhuhr prayer, and it is not disliked to do the prayer at any point within this time.

How long can you pray Maghrib for? ›

The Maghreb prayer time begins at sunset and the end of its time is as long as the twilight (the redness in the sky) has not departed. The Isha prayer begins as soon as the twilight has departed.

In Islamic jurisprudence, an obligatory act, with failure to perform it being sinful. Wajib acts can be obligatory on every individual (fard al-ayn), such as prayer, or on the entire community (fard al-kifayah), such as burying the dead.
