"This is the original Jell-O Ribbon Salad, as published in the Joys of Jell-O recipe book that my mom has had--probably since the 1950's. The holidays & other special occasions just wouldn't be the same without this dish on the table!"

  1. I was trying to find the recipe I found when I was in high school. It called for 1 box of strawberry Jello, 1 can jelled cranberry sauce. Make 1st part of jello directions until you have jello dissolved. Don't add the rest of the water. While warm, add cranberry sauce and use fork to combine. Set in fridge. When set, add top layer: 1 pkg. cream cheese & 1 tub whipped topping. Beat til smooth. Spread over jello layer. This has been a holiday favorite of my family's ever since I made it that first year. They demand it! I was hoping to find it here so that I could share it with my Pinterest friends. I might try adding the pineapple this year. That sounds good. It is also good with chopped nuts on top

  3. I wanted a new Jell-O Salad recipe this year and I was so happy to find this. My mother made it for Christmas years ago but unfortunately I did not have her recipe. It tasted exactly as I remembered it and my grandkids loved it. Thank you.

  5. My absolute favorite jello "salad" -- it's really more of a dessert with its sweet, creamy texture. Even with the extra effort, I make it a few times a year.

Why is Jell-O not popular anymore? ›

Jell-O shifted to single-serve cups and more convenient options as competition for snacks and desserts grew. Kraft in the early 2000's shifted the focus of Jell-O's advertising away from kids and toward adults. It pitched sugar-free Jell-O, for example, as a treat for Atkins dieters.

A fluid is anything that is liquid at room temperature such as ice, water ice, ice cream/sherbet, juice, soup, coffee or jello/pudding. All foods contain moisture (fluid) in different amounts. The problem was, the new processed substitutes couldn't be sold on taste alone, as Shapiro makes clear in her book Something From the Oven: They just weren't as good as the real thing. But American palates had been adjusting to industrial flavors for the entire 20th century.
