It is very important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits to make sure this medicine is working properly and to check for unwanted effects.
If itching, redness, swelling, or other signs of eye or eyelid irritation occur, check with your doctor. These signs may mean that you are allergic to this medicine.
This medicine may cause blurred vision or other vision problems. If these occur, do not drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are not able to see well. If these eye changes are bothersome, check with your doctor.
While you are using latanoprost, the iris (colored part) of your treated eye may slowly become more brown in color. This is more likely to happen if you have blue-brown, gray-brown, green-brown, or yellow-brown eyes. You may notice this change usually within several months or years from the start of treatment. You may also have darkening of the eyelid skin color or longer, thicker, and darker eyelashes. These changes to the iris, eyelid, and lashes may be permanent even if you stop using latanoprost. However, any of these changes will affect only the eye being treated with latanoprost. Check with your doctor if you have any concerns about this.

To keep the medicine as germ-free as possible, do not touch the applicator tip to any surface (including the eye). Also, keep the container tightly closed. Serious damage to the eye and possible loss of vision may result from using contaminated eye medicines.
What precautions should be taken when taking latanoprost? ›
Do not use latanoprost more often because it will not work as well. To apply eye drops, wash your hands first. To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface. If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them before using this medication.
What are the routes of administration for latanoprost? ›
Latanoprost administration is topical, with 1 drop once daily in the evening in the affected eye(s). Once-daily latanoprost has been shown to achieve a uniform round-the-clock reduction of IOP either alone or combined with a twice-daily dose of timolol.
Who should not use latanoprost eye drops? ›
Who may not be able to use latanoprost
- have ever had an allergic reaction to latanoprost or any other medicine.
- are about to have or have had eye surgery (including cataract surgery)
- have eye problems such as eye pain, irritation, inflammation, blurred vision or dry eyes.
Store in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. Xalatan®: Store the unopened bottle in the refrigerator. You may keep the opened bottle in the refrigerator or at room temperature for up to 6 weeks.

Answer: It should be no problem at all. It isn't an oversight you'd like to have happen regularly, but a single dose to the unaffected eye shouldn't cause any issues.
What are the side effects of latanoprost ophthalmic solution? ›
Latanoprost may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- stinging, burning, itching, watering, or swelling of the eye.
- redness of the eyelids.
- irritation.
- dry eyes.
Hold the dropper over your eye, and squeeze the bottle or single dose dropper gently so one drop goes into your eye. Release your lower eyelid and close your eye. Gently press your finger over the inside corner of your eye (over the eyelid) for about a minute. This helps keep the drops in your eye.

Relative contraindications include eyes at risk of(CME) cystoid macular edema (aphakic or pseudophakic with posterior capsule rupture), old history of macular edema, history of herpetic keratitis, pregnant and nursing mothers, and recent intraocular surgery.

- diclofenac ophthalmic.

The pressure in your eye will start to reduce 3 to 4 hours after using the eye drops. Latanoprost reaches full effect after 8 to 12 hours, and the reduced pressure will last for at least 24 hours. Are there any long-term side effects? Latanoprost can be used for many years with no long-term side effects.
