NBA 2K24 has revamped the takeovers system in MyPLAYER and MyCAREER. These were edited to more closely align with when a real NBA player enters the zone or gets hot. There are different takeovers one can use in 2K24, but these are the best.

What are the best NBA 2K24 takeovers?

Choosing the right takeover matters in key moments for NBA 2K24 players. If you’re in a tight matchup, you may want to increase your defense to stifle the opposing offense. If you’re trailing, you may want some offensive boosts so you can hit more shots and win the game.

The best NBA 2K24 takeover perk, however, comes from the Shooting takeover. This takeover comes from scoring and getting assists, naturally, since it is an offensive perk. When the bar is full, you can press the corresponding button and enjoy the benefits. It is easier to do with guards.

The Shooting takeover enhances all shooting attributes, so shooters will be more likely to knock down shots (whether in the mid-range or on the perimeter), enjoy more limitless range, ignore defenders, be better shot creators, and have spot-up precision and the ability to attack the rim.

Another excellent takeover perk is the defensive/rebounding takeover. This allows your defense and rebounding to improve. It can be vital to securing a close game and ensuring the other team is unable to come from behind. It is also useful in a comeback as stops are paramount there.

The defensive perk gives players extreme clamps, which makes it harder for the player you’re defending to get free and open. There are no easy blowbys, your shot contests have greater impact, and you will be more likely to grab defensive rebounds by being a boxout wall and more.

All NBA 2K24 takeovers

These are every single takeover in NBA 2K24. The controls are in parenthesis (Xbox/PlayStation):

  • Finishing takeover: Checkered flag (A/Cross)
  • Shooting takeover: Sniper icon (X/Square)
  • Playmaking takeover: Basketball with trail (Y/Triangle)
  • Defensive/Rebounding takeover: Shield (LB/L1)
  • Physicals takeover: Hand holding dumbbell (RB/R1)

The icons described above, like the checkered flag or shield, indicate what they will look like on your screen when you’re playing. Activate them with the right controls and reap the benefits for a few minutes of gameplay. They come with the following perks:

  • Accelerator – Takeover Meters fill faster when performing well on the court, allowing you to get to Takeover quicker.
  • Decelerator – Slow down how quickly your opponents achieve Takeover if you are guarding them closely.
  • Extender – Extends the length of time that Takeover stays active.
  • Juice – Gives an extra boost to your attributes when Takeover is activated.
  • Minimizer – Opponents activated Takeovers don’t last as long when closely guarded.
  • Saboteur – When a guarded opponent commits a turnover or bad shot, their Takeover meter gets a larger penalty.
  • Second Chance – When Takeover is full but not yet activated, making a mistake won’t completely reset the meter.
  • Sponge – When a teammate performs an action to increase their Takeover meter, you get a small boost to your own.
  • Stay Warm – Takeover meters won’t drain as quickly when performing poorly.
  • Suppressor – Opponents with an active Takeover receive smaller attribute boosts when you are guarding them

These are set up in your player customization. There are tiers to these, and the better you get, the stronger the perks are. It is similar to the badge system in that regard.

Naturally, doing tasks along the lines of what the perk is for will help fill up the takeover meter. Getting steals and blocks will help fill the defensive/rebounding takeover. Making layups and dunks will help with the finishing takeover, for example. Taking a bad shot, for instance, will have a negative impact on your meter.

You can experience double takeovers. If you happen to fill up two meters, you can employ both of them. You can also wait for another bar to fill up and use the old and new takeover simultaneously.

What is NBA 2K24 team takeover?

Just like your player can enjoy a takeover, the full lineup can as well. Once again, you will need to fill up the bar, but this time, it is dependent on all five players on the floor. You will see the bar fill up on your screen. When it does so, you need to press the right stick.

Zach’s Tips

Team takeovers are great in crunch time. If you can save yours for a crucial moment, it can be the difference in winning and losing. If all five players are activated, it makes a comeback easier and it can make stifling the opponent to lock up a win easier, too.

This actives the team takeover, which has team badge boost and team ratings boost. The whole lineup will stand to gain from this, making it easy to put a game away or embark on an epic comeback. The team takeover boost adds a flame to every single player on the floor, indicating that they are on fire.

This is true for current gen (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch) as well as next gen (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S). That’s all for takeovers, but check out our guide to the best jump shot, the best defensive badges, and the best MyPLAYER builds.
