On Tuesday, Clark County commissioners approved plans to name it Silver Copper Crossing. The bridge is scheduled to open to the public on Friday, June 7.

The second bridge connecting Bullhead City, Arizona, to Laughlin, Nevada, is scheduled to open on June 7th, 2024.

The Silver/Copper Crossing is the first bridge built in the area since 1987, when Don Laughlin built his bridge eight miles upriver. Federal funding for a second bridge connecting the two towns was first committed in the 1990s after a push from then-Senator Harry Reid.

The bridge, which cost $60 million, will reduce travel distance between the two communities by approximately 9 miles. Construction began in 2021 after more than two decades of initial planning, leading to the bridge's scheduled opening on June 7.

The bridge is located eight miles south of Laughlin's other bridge, which opened in 1987. There is a third, privately-maintained bridge, called Veterans Bridge, six miles south of the new structure that connects Fort Mohave, Arizona via Aztec Road with the land at the Avi Resort & Casino on the Nevada side.

The new bridge will connect the north and south sides of the Waterway District through newly constructed pedestrian pathways spanning from the new Medical Village area to East 20th Avenue. The bridge will be equipped ADA approved ramps built at an appropriate slope for biking and walking and an elevator.

Beautifully maintained and offering stunning views of the city and the river, the paved walking path lies adjacent to the Hotel Corridor along Casino Drive and is a great way to get from one casino to the other while soaking up sights like local fish and waterfowl to the boats sailing by.

After 37 years on the Colorado River, a popular annual motorcycle convention came to an end in Laughlin due to the coronavirus pandemic. But now the engines are revving, and the Laughlin River Run could be riding into a new venue this spring.
