The old saying goes that the eyes are the window to the soul. And celebs are no different. We’re already obsessed with celebrities – from what they eat to how to dress, so it’s no wonder their eyes are also a hot topic of conversation.
From the icy-cold smoulder of Cillian Murphy to the doe-eyed gaze of Jenna Ortega, Leightons Opticians wanted to find out which celebrity’s eyes were the most loved. We did this by analysing the search volume of each celebrity from a seed list of the top 200 celebrities of 2023. Here’s what we found.

The unique hazel hue of Rihanna’s eyes means she takes the top spot on our list. The Barbadian singer/songwriter is the founder of Fenty Beauty, which means she’s often the face of new launches and campaigns. She also shares makeup tutorials and is often a talking point for new makeup trends and looks – so it makes sense that her striking eyes are so loved.
Time Magazine’s Person of the Year 2023, Taylor Swift, comes in second place with some of the most-searched eyes. Although it’s worth noting many fans could be searching for her track ‘Eyes Open’, she’s still well known for her baby blues. Taylor Swift had a huge impact on pop culture in 2023 with her sell-out Eras tour and re-hashed album releases (dubbed as Taylor’s Version), which went viral on many social media platforms.
The blue-grey colour of Miley Cyrus’s eyes is as iconic as the pop star herself. Actor Cillian Murphy is well known for his striking, icy-blue eyes. His co-stars in the blockbuster movie Oppenheimer claim to have been regularly distracted by his eyes while on set. It has also been said that director Christopher Nolan hired him for that role because of his intense stare. Users on TikTok have recently been participating in a trend called the ‘blue eye theory’, which suggests that those with blue eyes have a more intimidating gaze. The results are inconclusive, although it seems like Nolan might buy into that theory after all.

Michael Jordan’s eyes have been a topic of conversation across the web as fans spotted that his eyes have started to look yellow and are, naturally, concerned. Jordan is likely affected by a form of melanosis called racial melanosis – a conjunctival pigmented lesion most common in those with dark skin tones. Melanosis usually increases with age and often won’t have complications. However, it’s important to have it checked regularly to avoid developing melanoma.
Our very own Ken, Ryan Gosling, is our 4th male celebrity with captivating eyes. His big baby blues have been catching the attention of many since his career really kicked off with The Notebook (2004). There has been some speculation online about whether he has a lazy eye, as some photos of the heartthrob have shown one of his eyes to appear “wonky”. As it turns out, he does have a slightly lazy eye, which gives his gaze an intense appearance at certain angles. The condition, called strabismus, happens because of a problem with neuromuscular control of your eye movement.
