May 25 (Reuters) - Former Manchester United and England forward Wayne Rooney has been appointed manager of Plymouth Argyle, the second-tier Championship club said on Sunday. Rooney replaces Ian Foster, who was sacked in April after just three months in the job.

Since Rooney left Derby he went back to the USA and spent a season in charge of DC United before joining Birmingham but was sacked less than three months into the role. In May 2024, Rooney was announced as the new manager of Sky Bet Championship side Plymouth.
