In a news release, city officials said they are now evaluating proposals only for the operation and/or management of Grand Park and the Grand Park Events Center. Westfield had been looking for someone to buy the sports complex or operate it for the city since March 2022.

The City of Westfield will retain ownership of Grand Park, with the terms of the partnership outlining Grand Park Sports & Entertainment's commitment to the development and management of the campus for up to forty years, valued at 300 million dollars to the City of Westfield.

The park, with 31 soccer fields, 26 baseball diamonds and other buildings, opened in 2014 with a construction cost of $49 million. The 377,000-square-foot events center, where the Indianapolis Colts practice in the summer, opened in 2016 with a price tag of $26 million.

The diamond portion of the campus includes 26 baseball/softball diamonds, eight of which are synthetic turf and all are lit.

In Westfield's original request for proposals, it had estimated Grand Park was worth more than $200 million, but the average of the two appraisals put it at $85 million. Westfield spent almost $68 million building Grand Park.

“This is for the tax payers to understand that Grand Park does not make money and that's OK, but we need to stop saying it makes money,” said Patton. His presentation showed in 2021 the park's revenue was $6.14 million with $3.37 million in expenses.

The construction cost for the Sports Campus through the end of 2016 was $67.9 million, including the cost of the new Events Center. Although construction represents a non-recurring source of economic impacts, this level of expenditure does create a significant impact during the construction period.
